2020 CAPL Conference Activities To Be Announced

Axe Throwing

(Capacity: 24, Cost/Person: $80, Time: 2pm – 5:15pm)

Have you ever experienced the pure adrenaline rush of throwing darts into a board?!  … Yeah, us neither.  Throwing an axe, on the other hand, is quite a deep visceral rush.  Relieve the stress of the morning’s education or (even worse) work session and channel your inner Viking, while learning how to throw an axe like a proper woods person, in a round robin tournament against your industry colleagues, where only one will sit atop BATL’s Iron Throne.  Pub snacks and 3 drinks/person included.

Barley Belt BBQ, Beer Seminar and Tasting Tour

(Capacity: 28, Cost/Person: $120, Time: 12:30pm – 5:15pm)

A true “Triple B” experience - Barbeque, beers and buddies. There’s no better way to toast the end of a great summer than by indulging in some serious southern smoked meat for lunch and washing it down with flight samplers from some of Calgary’s up and coming micro-breweries, including the 2018 co-winner for Alberta New Brewery of the Year.  Join us for an exclusive afternoon tour of three of Calgary’s newest breweries. You will sample the best of what each has to offer, while learning about the history of the micro brewing industry in Calgary, gaining a bit of beer knowledge, and hearing the first hand story behind each sip of deliciousness.

Rural Alberta Tasting Tour

(Capacity: 26, Cost/Person: $175, Time: 11:30am – 6:15pm)

Treat your senses to the best of what the Southern Alberta Foothills have to offer. The bus may end up being an activity all to itself; however, we won’t get too carried away until we’ve enjoyed a Chef’s lunch of local foods, paired with signature cocktails at the luxurious Azure Ridge Estate Hotel. The bus will then take us on a scenic foothills tour to the Eau Claire Distillery, in Turner Valley, for a mixology lesson and tasting, before singing our way through the countryside, back downtown, in time for the Opening Reception at Subrosa.

Frac School

(Capacity: 34, Cost/Person: $150, Time: 8:00am – 12:00pm)

Running concurrently with Tuesday morning’s education sessions, this activity is a must attend for anyone interested in the ins and outs of extracting hydrocarbons utilizing fracture stimulation. This seminar will take place in the 54th floor EnCana Auditorium, where Iron Horse Energy Services and Fusion Technologies Inc. will give delegates a detailed overview of current fracture stimulations techniques, tools and fluids. Video and classroom presentations will be supplemented with actual downhole assemblies being reviewed on site. This will be followed by a hands-on frac fluids seminar and reveiw of how to interpret a frac pressure chart as the operation is taking place. This activity has been organized for CAPL by Teine Energy Ltd, who will also be providing a light breakfast for each delegate.

Lunch Time Cooking Adventure

(Capacity: 25, Cost/Person: $100, Time: 11:30am – 2:00pm)

Slip out of work for a downtown lunch adventure at an easygoing, educational cooking class. Be sure to impress at your next dinner party by learning some tips of the trade directly from a Chef, while getting a taste for some wines curated to match. Then finish off with the best part of all – eating your creation while socializing with your colleagues over a nice glass of wine! This event will feed your mind, body and soul!

Opening Reception

(Cost/Person: Included in Conference, Time: 5:30pm – Midnight)

Walk on down Stephen’s Avenue, approach the doorman under the cryptic, neon triangle and tell them Kayley sent you. From there, you’ll be led deep beneath the Hudson’s Bay heritage building, into the after hours club Subrosa. This CAPL Conference exclusive venue will be sure to Ignite Conversations, away from prying eyes. Catch up to your colleagues and lounge in style as you kick off the Conference with fellow delegates over signature cocktails and feature canapes.

Wednesday Night Spark Cocktail Reception

(Cost/person: Included in Conference, Time: 4:00pm-7:00pm)

Walk out of Wednesday afternoon’s presentations to indulge in some “CAPL Talk” of your own.  Join your fellow delegates, post conference in the TELUS Spark Lounge, for a cocktail or two and some appetizers. Share knowledge gained throughout the day, and relax the brain, before heading out (home?) for the night.

Thursday Night Wrap Up

(Cost/person: Included in Conference, Time: 6:00pm-Midnight)

Wind up your Conference week in style, and allow the spirit of Ancient Polynesia to ignite your final conversations. Beware of fire eaters while you network your way through the jungle to find your signature cocktails at the base of the smoking volcano. Throw on your best grass skirt or Hawaiian Shirt on this tropical jungle adventure. Just come ready to indulge in drinks, a chef’s select dinner and dancing.  The Indigo Circus’ ground acrobats and fire dancers will set the mood and warm up the dance floor for the energy of Calgary’s own Drum n DJ, who have shared the stage with the Chainsmokers, Rihanna, Kygo, and Snoop Dogg, to name a few … And in case none of this gets you fired up, make sure to stick around for the late night snack!
