Individuals who require a better understanding of the Surface Rights Board hearing process from start to finish.

What:

This course will begin by covering the types of surface rights board hearings, including compensation, rent review, damage claims and back rent. The next section will focus on the structure of the hearing and deal with procedural elements, evidence taken under oath, direct and cross examination of witnesses and questions from the board. From there the course will focus on evidentiary issues like the burden of proof and discuss privacy issues before closing by discussing the orders ultimately issued by the board.

Heidi Meldrum

Heidi completed her articles with Swist & Company in 2004.  She joined Parlee McLaws LLP in 2006, when Swist & Company joined the firm.  Heidi’s oil & gas practice is focused in the areas of oil and gas development and surface rights relating to wellsites, facilities and pipelines, including licensing, surface access, and reclamation issues under the jurisdiction of the Surface Rights Board (SRB), and the Alberta Energy Regulator.  In 2013, she opened her own practice, Surface Rights Law Office.  Her experience in these areas includes dealing with courts and administrative tribunals, and coordination and preparation of regulatory documents for oil and gas operators, including license application packages and right of entry application packages.  Professional Associations and Memberships:  Member, Canadian Bar Association, Alberta Expropriation Association and the CAPL.
